Study: Hands-Free Texting Not Safe

EUGENE, Ore. — A new study from AAA suggests hand-free texting is even more dangerous than simply talking on a cell phone.

Researchers found that using speech-to-text is actually most distracting of all. They say it actually uses more brain concentration rather than talking on the phone or listening to a book on tape or the radio.

Drivers say they’re not surprised with the findings.

“I think that hands-free is way more dangerous. You have to concentrate more on talking and doing things than talking on the phone would,” said driver Brittany Vaugn.

Automakers have been trying to entice young car buyers with dashboard “infotainment” systems that allow drivers to voice their commands.
