EUGENE, Ore. – Summer storms sparked new wildfires across Oregon Tuesday and Wednesday.
From 8 a.m. Tuesday to 8 a.m. Wednesday there were 862 lightning strikes in Oregon, most in northeast corner of the state. Firefighters were dispatched to 16 potential fires in northeast Oregon.
Fires are often not found and reported within the first 24 hours, but as the fires grow over a few days, they become more visible and are found, so more may come up from this storm in the coming days.
Of the fires found after a lightning storms, 98 percent of the fires are extinguished within 24 hours.
