METEOROLOGIST MELISSA FREY’S FORECAST DISCUSSION:
The weather roller coaster started Friday and the ride keeps on going this week. Eugene hit 95 degrees on Friday, followed by over a 20 degree drop to just 71 on Saturday and 74 on Sunday.
This chilly air is sticking around. The jet stream took a dive south over the weekend and is going to stay on top of us through Tuesday. In addition to the cold arctic air aloft, a cold front made its way down from Vancouver Island, bringing cooler air, clouds and even some rain.
Eugene saw the first rain drops fall around 6 a.m., although it wasn’t much, only amounting to a trace. Our neighbors to the north in western Washington are getting the brunt of this storm.
By late in the day we’ll start to see the clouds break up, but highs will stay in the low 70s. Tuesday we’ll likely start the day with fog, but sunshine should break through for the afternoon. As this cold front moves through Monday and Tuesday, the wind will be quite strong. Winds will be from the north at 10-15 mph Monday and 15-20 with gusts to 30 mph on Tuesday.
By Wednesday the jet stream will head back north and it’ll be back to summer weather for Oregon. High temperatures should hit the mid 80s Wednesday, followed by upper 80s and low 90s Thursday.
Friday through the weekend is looking mild with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 80s.
Have a great start to the work week!
