EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon State Police reported DUII arrests during this year’s Super Bowl weekend were down from last year. OSP troopers arrested 31 people on DUII charges, which is down from the 38 arrested last year.
OSP troopers also responded to two fatal traffic crashes over the weekend.
The first crash occurred sometime Friday night off of Highway 53, just north of Highway 101, in Tillamook County. A citizen notified police around 8 a.m. Saturday of the single-vehicle crash. OSP says a 36-year-old Nehalem man was found deceased at the scene.
The second crash happened on Highway 213 around 8:20 p.m. Sunday. Troopers say an 80-year-old man from Kettle, Wash. was killed in the single-vehicle crash and alcohol is a possible contributing factor.
Last year, OSP says three people died in three separate traffic crashes during Super Bowl weekend.
Since 2007, OSP troopers have arrested over 300 DUII drivers during Super Bowl weekends.
