Support Grows for Deputy and His Wife

EUGENE, Ore. — The community is starting to rally around a Lane County sheriff’s deputy and his wife critically injured in a hit-and-run accident in Mexico.

The accident happened Friday while Deputy Drew Wattier and his wife, Michelle, were on vacation in Los Cabos, Mexico.

Michelle works at Eugene accounting firm Moss Adams and her boss says she is a delightful person. The company is hoping to make a large donation to the couple to help with costs.

A fund is set up at SELCO Community Credit Union.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office says both Drew and Michelle’s family have arrived in Mexico and their main concern is getting them stable enough to fly home for care. It says both are not awake, but Drew is responding to touch and voice.

There’s also a Papa’s Pizza fundraiser at all locations in Eugene set for Dec. 19. Fifty percent of the proceeds will go to the family relief fund.
