LEBANON, Ore. – Lebanon Police arrested two men after a dangerous pursuit Monday.
Police say they spotted a vehicle that was reported stolen Sunday night near the intersection of 7th and Tangent streets around noon.
Police caught up with the vehicle travelling northbound on Hansard Street. The driver, identified as Cary Pedigo, 24, of Lebanon, sped off once he realized he was being followed by police.
Pedigo continued to speed eastbound on Reeve’s Parkway, drove around several vehicles and through a stop sign to turn north onto Santiam Highway.
The pursuit continued on Santiam Highway, before Pedigo turned onto Gore Drive and pulled onto the side of the street. Pedigo and the passenger, Daniel Noonchester, 24, of Lebanon, jumped out of the vehicle and ran alongside the road.
Detectives continued pursuing the suspects on foot when they realized the vehicle was still in drive rolling down Gore Drive. The van struck a set of mailboxes before veering off the road, over the embankment, and into the canal. The vehicle continued to run with the wheels spinning in the water, but remained in place.
After a short pursuit on foot, detectives took Pedigo and Noonchester into custody. Both men face charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle; Pedigo faces additional charges including attempt to elude, attempt to elude on foot, reckless driving, recklessly endangering and criminal mischief.
No one was injured during the pursuit.
