EUGENE, Ore. — More than 300 people are expected to take the plunge Saturday–the Polar Plunge, that is.
Staff members were out at Maurie Jacobs Park Friday setting up for the chilly dip and run into the Willamette River.
The proceeds will go to support the Special Olympics. Coordinators say the cause is a great one, helping to provide these athletes with a team experience they might not get otherwise.
“These Special Olympics athletes are doing the same thing. It’s just good for their heart. It’s good for their head, and it’s good physically for them as well,” said Brittany Quick-Warner, event manager.
It’s not too late to join. Folks can still register Friday, Feb. 1 until 7 p.m. at the Fred Meyer on West 11th Avenue and Saturday, Feb. 2 before the event.

Someone could have a heart attack doing this, how irresponsible!
