I am so sorry for the death of the young man and the guilt the other boy will live with. I have a problem with how this is reported, saying that the firearm “accidentally went off”. Three of the basic rules for firearm safety were ignored and maybe these should be included to help remind others:
    1) Always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction!
    2) Always check to see if a firearm is unloaded, and keep it unloaded until you are ready to use it.
    3) Always keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire.
I read about these accidents and hear of the outcome but never hear of how they could/should have been avoided. FIREARM SAFETY IS NO ACCIDENT– IT HAS TO BE TAUGHT, LEARNED and PRACTICED. It would be great if reporters included safety precautions when reporting on these types of news stories.

This makes me very sad, but my thoughts were the same as Brad Shaddy….. From what i understand one of the boys owned that rifle….. and to own a firearm he really should have first been taught the proper way to handle a firearm….. handle them safely, or don’t handle them at all! So sad that people have to die this way when it was totally preventable :( My thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family members of both of these boys…. may a lesson be learned by this, please, please!

So sad, just found out it was my cousins best friend :( It’s a shame they were not using the precautions. At that age especially there should be strict rules instilled in the kids who are given guns or to use them at all. Such an aweful, unnecessary death :( This is one of the reasons people who want to get rid of guns someday will succeed. There needs to be better education toward the use of guns.
