Thanks Rick

On Sunday, during the KEZI 9 News at 11:00pm, Rick Dancer officially announced his run as a Republican for Oregon’s Secretary of State position. Because of this decision, he will no longer continue in his job as an anchor for KEZI 9. The Chambers Family, owners of KEZI 9, supports Rick’s decision to pursue public office.

“Rick was an extremely valued member of our team for nearly 20 years,” says Scott Chambers, owner of KEZI 9. “His professionalism, excellent news sense and exceptional research skills have won many awards. More importantly, his behind-the-scenes dedication to children’s issues won him the hearts of many in the community.”

Rick Dancer started with KEZI in 1989 as a reporter and news anchor. Dancer, a native of Hillsboro, began his career in broadcasting in Coos Bay before moving to Eugene. Among his accomplishments are numerous AP awards for his stories, as well a special interview with Peter Jennings.” This interview was famously aired after Jennings’s death in 2005.

In his career, Dancer has covered a wide range of stories but was especially interested in children’s issues. His frequent special reports, focused on children, brought his passion to the forefront. Rick has been honored by many non-profits as a valuable community leader.

“Rick was dedicated to his job,” says Mark Hatfield, General Manager of KEZI 9. “We thank Rick for nearly two decades of service to KEZI 9 and the people of Western Oregon.”

Note: Like all broadcasters, KEZI 9 is subject to equal time rules. Dancer’s decision to make a run for public office means that he cannot continue as a television news anchor.
