EUGENE, Ore. — The top donor to the University of Oregon Athletic Department doesn’t often enjoy being in the spotlight.
Phil Knight is a very private figure, and for a long time he and his donations seemed to be an off-limits subject at the school. But there has been a shift in recent years.
From the president to the athletic director to most students, people on campus talk much more openly about just how close the Nike co-founder gets to decision-making at Oregon.
We did request an interview with Mr. Knight and Nike. That request was declined.
