EUGENE, Ore. — Local schools districts have been monitoring weather conditions all day, and some are already calling another snow day.
4J, Bethel, Springfield, Fern Ridge and Pleasant Hill are just a few schools who’ve already announced closures for Tuesday.
District administrators say they usually make the decisions in the morning, after they’ve assessed the weather conditions.
They say calling it the night before is rare and they use a special team to determine if it’s safe for students to return.
“We have what we call our inclement weather team and it’s a system that a lot of districts use so we have a group of people that typically between four and six in the morning will go out and drive some of our bus routes drive the streets, look at temperature,” said Devon Ashbridge, Springfield Schools Communications Specialist.
Facilities staff were out at many of the area schools Monday clearing sidewalks and stairs.
One of the major concerns district administrators mentioned was that snow and ice aren’t just in the higher elevations. Streets in town are also a safety hazard.
