COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. — Thousands of students in Cottage Grove got prepared for the school year in style today. More than ten local churches held “Party in the Park” at Coiner park this afternoon. Organizers say staff and volunteers worked for months to plan the event, where hundreds of backpacks were handed out to kids in grades K-12, along with the rest of the works when it comes to school supplies.
Rulon Combs, lead pastor at “living faith” church in Cottage Grove, says they’re fulfilling an important need in the community.
“People in need, there’s a very high level in this town, also with unemployment. So we’re trying to raise resources that the kids can have good supplies, fresh supplies, and a new backback to go to school,” he said.
Students and their familes also enjoyed food, music, haircuts and more, all for free.
