EUGENE, Ore. — From Ashland to Roseburg and Roseburg to Eugene, the Flame of Hope Torch is lighting its way to Corvallis.
Springfield and Eugene police ran with Special Olympics athletes Wednesday, in the 2014 Law Enforcement Torch Run.
About 20 representatives with the Eugene Police Department are running to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics.
Parents and other supporters cheered from Valley River Center as runners crossed the Delta Highway overpass.
“It’s amazing. It makes them feel like they’re a part of the community. They’re part of something. They meet all sorts of people. It’s a sense of accomplishment. It’s fabulous,” said parent Shereen Stebbins.
Eugene police are running the torch to Junction City, where it’ll be picked up by the Corvallis Police Department. The Special Olympics are Friday in Newberg.
