Train Kills Woman in Eugene

EUGENE, Ore. — A 31-year-old transient woman died after being hit by a train near downtown Eugene Thursday afternoon.

Eugene police say at about 1:39 p.m., a Union Pacific train going westbound hit and killed a woman.

Investigators say after talking to witnesses and the conductor, they are calling her death intentional.

“There was a female standing next to the tracks. The train started to go by, and at that point people lost sight of her. They tried to take a look to see what she was doing on the side, and when they did that they saw her under the train,” said Eugene Police Sgt. Ryan Molony.

EPD says people should avoid 1st Ave. and Van Buren Street during its investigation. The intersection may be closed for several hours.

No other information has been released at this time.
