Train vs. Car Crash near Highway 99

EUGENE, Ore. — Emergency crews on the scene of an accident involving a train and a car.

The crash happened along Highway 99 just south of Beltline Highway Monday afternoon. Investigators told KEZI 9 News that the train actually backed into the car as the driver was traveling across the tracks. The train was moving at a very low speed, so the damage done was minimal. Everyone in the car got out safely after the accident.

Witnesses say it was still a nerve-racking experience to watch the situation unfold.

There is no major impact on traffic right now, but railroad crews on the scene say this accident could actually push their work back a month.

There’s no word yet on when the accident will be cleared or when the train will be allowed to move along.

Usualy these train’s have some sort of light on the rear. My guess is that the driver did not notice it. It’s a good thing there were no injury’s.

If it had anything on the back end (unclear) it would have been a “FRED” – Flashing Rear End Device. They don’t actually flash all that brightly. I would expect that there would have been a railroad employee near the back end however.
