Truck Driver Escapes Semi Fire

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. — Several lanes along I-5 northbound were blocked off early Thursday morning after a semi truck caught fire. It happened near Cottage Grove at milepost 174.

The semi was carrying loads of water bottles from Sacramento to Woodburn when the flames broke out. It took South Lane fire crews roughly 20 minutes to put out the fire.

The driver was shaken up, but unhurt.

“All I remember is a fire, right behind me, on my trailer and on front of my truck, so I think just get out of the truck and that’s all I did. All my stuff is there, so yeah it was very scary,” he said.

Fire crews tried keeping the flames out of the trailer, but the semi’s cab is a total loss. Oregon State Police troopers helped open up one lane of traffic while they waited for ODOT to tow the truck away.
