Twig Causes Small Brush Fires

EUGENE, Ore. — Fire crews say a twig was to blame for two small fires near Delta Highway and Green Acres Road Saturday.

Firefighters responded to the scene and quickly put out both fires. They say a small branch fell on electrical wires, which ignited some brush and part of a tree.

“Caused it to spark over there, sent a short across these lines here, caused that breaker to blow on the pole that’s a little further south, and dropped sparks on that area and the two areas caught on fire,” said Battalion Chief Matthew Steinberg, Eugene Fire Department.

Firefighters say the electrical surge could have caused some power outages or spotty electricity in parts of town.
