Officers pulled over 29-year-old Shawn Kanan, just after midnight for driving without headlights. He was arrested and processed at the Springfield jail.
After posting bail, he was released to a taxi cab, and told if he returned to his vehicle, he’d be arrested again.
Police say two hours later, they caught him driving away in his Pruis. The same officer stopped him again and arrested him again. They cited him for DUII, reckless driving, and tampering with an ignition interlock device. Police say it was installed after a previous arrest.
KEZI 9 News asked police if they believe Kanan finally learned his lesson.
“He already had that device in his car, and he defeated it to drive again, and not only did it once but twice in the same night, so I’m not sure about that,” said Sgt. Rich Charboneau, Springfield Police Department.
Kanan’s mom bailed him out after the second arrest for a grand total of $12,300.
