Two Dead in Plane Crash Near Scio

SCIO, Ore. — Two men are dead after their plane crashed in to the countryside near Scio.

Tim Carter, 46, of Portland, and Jeff Kropf, 45, of Halsey died when their small plane crashed in the area near Brewster Road and Highway 226.

Witnesses say that at about 3:30 p.m. on Monday, they saw the plane bank, and then a wing ripped off, sending the plane’s nose diving to the ground.

Carter was the owner of the plane, and had his private pilot’s license.

The FAA says the plane was a Kit Plane, meaning pilots put it together themselves.

The wings on kit planes are known to break off in certain models.
