Two Die in Head-On Crash Near Chemult

CHEMULT, Ore. – Oregon State Police are investigating a double fatal crash on Highway 97 Friday.

Troopers say around 11 a.m. Kenneth C. Frazier, 44, of Gilchrist, was travelling southbound on Highway 97 near milepost 200 when he attempted to pass another vehicle in a no passing zone. At that time Earl R. Johnson, 73, of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, was traveling northbound. Johnson attempted to avoid Frazier but the two vehicles collided.

Frazer and Johnson were pronounced dead at the scene. Johnson’s passenger Joanne Johnson, 71, of Lake Havasu sustained critical injuring and was transported by Airlink to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.

Troopers say all passengers were wearing their seat belts and do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

More reason than ever to make 97 a 4 Lane divided Interstate from KFalls to BC. Then you could have a spur go over Mt Hood to the Coast…another 4 Lane divided Freeway. It would save a lot of deaths.
