EUGENE, Ore. – Halloween decorations are everywhere and at the University of Oregon they’re dropping out of the sky.
Student affiliates of The American Chemical Society put pumpkins to the test, dropping them from three stories high. Students conducted experiments that included dropping both frozen and unfrozen pumpkins and recording the splatter patterns.
According to Senior Instructor, Randy Sullivan, “Part of my job as a lecture-demonstrator is making chemistry fun and exciting for people. The more fun we make it the more they will engage in it.”
The research labs hosted a ‘Night in the Laboratory’ where children toured Willamette Hall, trick or treated and took part in the ‘Research is a Scream’ workshop.
