EUGENE, Ore. — The United Way of Lane County is hosting its 20th annual Day of Caring on Wednesday, and participants will be able to give back to the community in many different ways.
The Day of Caring is a day when volunteers can help local non-profits that are in need of assistance, and this year, 400 volunteers will spend the day painting, cleaning, building, and repairing for various organizations in need—rain or shine. Amy Bresler with the United Way says that the event doesn’t just benefit the non-profits; it’s also fun for the volunteers.
“They look forward to it every year,” says Bresler. “They’re very engaged and feel not only are they providing service for the organization, the project they’re working on, but they get a huge amount of gratification and satisfaction in doing a project well-done.”
Some of the projects happening on Wednesday include yard maintenance at the White Bird Clinic; preparing craft and art projects for kids in transition to school playgroups; and working on the playground at Pearl Buck Elementary School.
