EUGENE, Ore. — A bomb scare had EPD clearing the streets along the Sacred Heart University District Hospital near 13th and Hilyard Friday night.
Officers say 30-year-old Michael Cole walked into the hospital claiming to have explosives in his backpack.
The Metro Explosives Disposal Unit was called to the scene. Using a robot, the team set off two controlled charges to diffuse the potential threat. They ended up finding the bag had nothing more than some tools, water and food.
Though it turned out to be a false alarm, people like Joanie Myles were concerned.
“I’m just a little freaked out you know,” she said. “Because of everything that’s been going on with the shootings in Connecticut, you know, and now we have this in our own backyard. It’s crazy.”
Cole is now being held at the Lane County Jail for disorderly conduct.
