University Police Offers Safety Escorts

uopdEUGENE, Ore. — University of Oregon Police are offering a way for students to get around campus safely at night.

UOPD says there are other services on campus, such as Safe Ride, aimed to help students get around safely, but that requires scheduling ahead of time and can be inconvenient to students.

So, UOPD has security escorts that can walk students from one place to another on campus to make sure they’re safe.

“They can give us a call and we can dispatch a security escort for them. It could be a uniform officer. It could be one of our student security, but we’ll get someone to get them safely from whatever campus location to another campus location they need to get to,” said Kelly McIver, UOPD Spokesman.

Police say this isn’t the first year they’ve had these security escorts, they just don’t get calls often because some students don’t know it exists.
