UO, OSU Compete in Civil War Blood Drive

EUGENE, Ore. — The Civil War on the football field is a couple of weeks away, but the 12th annual Civil War Blood Drive is well under way.

The friendly competition runs through Nov. 24. The American Red Cross, Lane Blood Center, the University of Oregon and Oregon State University take part in an effort to increase donations before the critical holiday period.

Ten days in, the Beavers are leading with 1,060 donations, nearly twice the number of Duck donations.

“The Beavers are definitely ahead, they were collecting blood at OSU’s campus all week last week. This week we’re collecting blood at the U of O all week so there’s plenty of time to catch up and those Ducks really want to keep the trophy,” said Kristi McElhinney, Marketing Communications Specialist at Lane Blood Center.

All participants can enter a drawing to win tickets to the Civil War Football Game on Friday, Nov. 29.

Last year, 8,000 people donated, and the Ducks won for the third straight year.
