Update: Springfield Police released the name of the victim in Thursday’s fatal house fire. Police say Karen Ann Rose, 60, was found dead in the home when firefighters responded.
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Springfield Fire and Police responded to a house fire Thursday morning to discover a woman did not make it out alive.
The home is on the 900 block of N Street. When the fire started, a man who neighbors believe is the woman’s boyfriend was in the house, but was unable to save her. Now investigators are trying to piece together what caused the blaze.
“She was semi-disabled and had some medical problems, but she was a very good neighbor,” says Ed Stamp, who lives next door. He says he heard the commotion early in the morning and stepped outside to see what was going on.
Police roped the house off as officers and the fire marshal’s office investigated to see if any criminal activity took place before the fire.
“The medical examiner’s office is also here,” said Sgt. Richard Jones of the Springfield Police Department. “They’ll be in charge of basically doing the investigation to see what the actual cause of death would’ve been to this lady.”
The fire department isn’t releasing the woman’s name until her family has been notified.
