TRIPOLI, LIBRA (CNN) — The United State has evacuated its embassy in the embattled Libyan capital of Tripoli.
The embassy was attacked in 2011. Recently, operations have relocated to a new facility.
The urgent removal of some 150 embassy staff by U.S. Marines comes amid intense militia fighting in the area. It also comes just one day after Turkey shuttered its diplomatic mission in the same section of the city.
U.S. officials say the embassy workers were transported across the border into Tunisia under heavy U.S. Military security.
