WEST LINN, Ore. — A Springfield woman was arrested Monday after failing to yield to and eluding an Oregon State Police trooper.
Just before 3 a.m. Monday, OSP Trooper Anthony Pagano attempted to stop a BMW traveling northbound on Interstate 5, near Woodburn, for a speed violation. The car was reported stolen Sunday afternoon from the Springfield area.
Police say the driver, Brittany Dawn Chapman, 22, failed to yield to trooper and attempted to elude him going over 145 mph. Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputies started to follow the car, too, as it continued onto Interstate 205 and then onto Highway 43. Officers lost sight of the car while on Highway 43.
About a half hour later, West Linn police found the vehicle abandoned near Mary S. Young State Park.
Around 7:19 a.m Monday, West Linn Detective Jason Dolan saw Chapman walking near where the car was abandoned. She was arrested and taken to the West Linn Police Department. She was later taken to the Marion County Jail by Trooper Pagano. The intake deputy at the Marion County Jail found a glass pipe with methamphetamine residue in her purse.
Chapman faces charges for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, felony attempt to elude in a vehicle, reckless driving, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
