Volunteers Needed for Homeless Count

EUGENE, Ore. — The Community Alliance of Lane County (CALC) and the Lane County Human Services Commission will team up to complete their annual One Night Homeless Count. Both organizations need help counting the unhoused in Eugene and Springfield this year.

On Wednesday, Jan. 30, CALC members and volunteers will walk along the streets to meet people sleeping on the streets and not in shelters.

There are four different times for volunteers to meet before heading out into different neighborhoods. The meeting times are at 7 a.m., 12 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the CALC building at 458 Blair Blvd.

The annual homeless count helps Lane County gather funds for social services to help serve the unhoused. Federal dollars available to the unhoused are not dispersed because many are not counted as part of the U.S. Census.

If interested, call CALC at (541) 485-1755 and leave a name and the volunteer time.
