EUGENE, Ore. — If you’re ready to channel your inner Johnny Appleseed, Food For Lane County can use your help.
The organization needs volunteers to help pick apples this Saturday. It’s part of the group’s food production program aiming to make 10,000 jars of applesauce.
The inspiration for this project came from a sizable donation of jars and local orchards wanting to fill them with their apples.
“We want to help people who are hungry, we want to go to local solutions and by working with local producers we’re helping the local economy as well, so for us and for the farmers involved it’s a win win situation,” said Dawn Marie Woodward of Food For Lane County.
Food For Lane County is looking for 35 volunteers to meet them at King Estate Winery this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. It’s located at 80854 Territorial Hwy in Eugene. You have to be at least 14 years old to participate.
