SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Times are still tough for many businesses, but one Springfield restaurant is digging deep and giving back.

Marilou and Jeff Heriot bought the Washburne Cafe in downtown Springfield one year ago. To celebrate their one year anniversary, they’re giving back by teaming up with three organizations: Head Start of Lane County, Food For Lane County and the Springfield Education Foundation.

“It’s a great collaboration, too. It’s great having a business like this in downtown Springfield, and it’s great that they really care about the students of Springfield and are willing to support us in this way,” said Ronnel Curry from the Springfield Education Foundation.

This week, a percentage of cafe sales will go to Head Start of Lane County. Customers can also bring in school supplies and get $2 coffee coupon.

Next week, the cafe is collecting canned goods for Food For Lane County and handing out $2 coffee coupons to those who donate.

The week of September 23, the Springfield Education Foundation will receive a percentage of cafe sales.
