EUGENE, Ore. — Meals on Wheels had to cancel deliveries once again on Monday, because of the bad roads.
The Lane County program serves people over the age of 60 and their spouses who can’t get out of the house much because of illness or age.
Program Manager Sandy Karsten says volunteers drive their own cars, and home delivery can be dangerous.
To make matters worse, they found a weather-related problem in their own kitchen.
“Today we found, as the kitchen was being opened up, that we have frozen pipes in the kitchen, so now we’re in line with other people with frozen pipes to get our kitchen back into operation,” Karsten said.
Karsten says Meals on Wheels is working to repair the pipes, but they aren’t sure when they’ll resume service.
