Weekend Crash on Hwy 101 Kills Two

WALDPORT, Ore. — Oregon State Police closed down Highway 101 for four hours Sunday morning to investigate a crash that killed two women.

Around 10:30 a.m., Suzanne Carol Aiken, 69, and Loise A. Raether, 94, both from Yachats, were driving northbound when their van was struck by a flatbed trailer. The trailer disconnected from a pickup truck traveling southbound driven by Spencer K. Foley, 23.

The trailer began to fishtail, disconnected from the pickup, entered the northbound lane and collided with the van. The trailer was carrying a Polaris off-road vehicle, which came off upon impact and hit the van.

Both women were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other passengers in the pickup, Bobbi J. Foley, 23, and a 2-year-old boy, were not injured.
