West Nile Virus Case in Coos County

COOS COUNTY, Ore. — Coos County Public Health has confirmed a case of West Nile Virus in the county.

They say one person has been infected with the virus, which is spread by mosquitoes. The virus causes mild flu-like symptoms.

County health officials say even though the chances of contracting the virus are low, you should try to avoid getting mosquito bites.

This can be done by doing things like wearing insect repellant that contains DEET, wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants in mosquito-infested areas.
