EUGENE, OR – The Emeralds hosted the Spokane Indians in a see-saw game 4 of a 6-game series. The Indians struck first off Ems starter Logan Jernigan when leadoff man Seth Spivey doubled and scored after a pair of pass balls.
Eugene would get on the board in the bottom of the 2nd using 3 hits and a walk off of RHP Reed Garrett. The big hits came from Miguel Del Castillo and Felipe Blanco who each collected RBI’s in a 3-run inning.
Tony Wieber relieved Jernigan to start the 4th inning and Spokane greeted him with a pair of singles. With two on and one out CF Zach Cone belted a 2-run double and Isiah Kiner-Falefa followed with a go-ahead RBI double of his own and the Indians led 4-3.
Reed Garrett finished 5 innings allowing those 3 runs on 4 hits and a walk. Spokane went to the bullpen to start the 6th and it opened the door for Eugene. A leadoff double from Franchy Cordero and a two-out walk to Auston Bousfield setup RBI singles from Yale Rosen and Miguel del Castillo to take a 5-4 lead.
The score would stay right there until the top of the 9th. Bryan Verbitsky pitched the 8th allowing just a one-out single. He would walk Kiner-Falefa to start the 9th before striking out the next two hitters. When Verbitsky walked Seth Spivey to put the potential go-ahead run on with two down, Eugene manager Robbie Wine went to the bullpen for left-hander Travis Radke. Radke walked the right-handed hitting Juremi Profar and then allowed an opposite-field base-clearing triple to DH Jose Trevino.
The Ems managed a 2-out double in the bottom of the 9th but lefty Louis Pollorena struck out Cory Spangenberg to end the game. Each team has taken two of the first four of the series with two more games to play. Wednesday night’s game will start at 7:05pm with tickets still available. Thursday July 3 is standing room only with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
