Willagillespie Elementary Learns to Forecast the Weather

EUGENE, Ore. — The Stormtracker 9 team is generally hard at work in the weather center, but from time to time they like to get out into the community.

Friday, Meteorologist Melissa Frey had the chance to visit with the first graders at Willagillespie Elementary.

They may only be in first grade, but these students in Mrs. Cowman, Mrs. Barton, Mrs. Points and Mrs. Suzi’s classes have a new motivation: keep up with their math and science home work.

They now know what goes into being a meteorologist and how the invention of thermometers, barometers, radar and satellites makes forecasting the weather a lot easier and more accurate.

Melissa says she thinks will see at least one of these students forecasting the weather when they grow up.
