EUGENE, Ore. — Roughly 75 employees of Windermere Real Estate got down and dirty Friday volunteering for Food for Lane County. This was eighth year the group donated a day of service to the organization tending to its 2.5-acre GrassRoots Garden just off Coburg Road behind the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Eugene.
Staff, family and friends did just about everything from clearing out old greenery to planting new seedlings and even laying down plenty of nutrient-filled fertilizer.
Food for Lane County GrassRoots Garden Coordinator Merry Bradley says, “This has really been a massive power surge for us and every year Windermere comes. They are the force that pops us over the hump and get us into the growing season to make sure we’re on track and we’re going to make our timing.”
The GrassRoots Garden is one of three run by Food for Lane County. It produces between 55,000 to 65,000 pounds of food each year.
