EUGENE, Ore.– The first regional skateboarding competition rolled through the new Washington Jefferson Skatepark and Urban Plaza Saturday. About 60 professional and amateur skateboarders came from all over the west coast. They competed for $6,000 in prizes and a $1,000 prize for the best trick. Many people who attended say they feel lucky to have the largest covered skatepark in the nation, right here in town.
“I like it all, it’s just a really hardcore park and it’s really good for the community here,” said Corey Vandlac of Nixon.
“It’s really nice and it’s fun,” adds fan Keena Mackenzie.
Saturday’s competition is called Northwest Jam and sponsors include Tactics Boardshop, Nike SB, and Independent Truck Company. The event ended with a party at Cozmic.
