Woman Dies After Being Pulled from River

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. — A Winston woman passed away at the hospital Thursday after being pulled from the South Umpqua River.

Winston police say Natasha Brooks was swimming with her children when one of the children got caught in the current and was swept into deeper water.

Another child also slipped in deeper water, and Brooks swam out to the child and was attempting to push him up when she went underwater.

Bystanders performed CPR on Brooks in the river, and she was taken to the hospital. OHSU says Brooks died Thursday afternoon.
