Woman Dies After Being Pulled from River

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Crews responded to calls of a woman floating in the McKenzie River near Hayden Bridge just after 12 a.m. Friday.

The Eugene-Springfield Fire Department and Lane County Search and Rescue launched rescue boats into the McKenzie River to retrieve the woman a half mile downstream from Hayden Bridge. Witnesses said they tried to get the woman’s attention when they saw her floating in the water, but she was unresponsive.

When crews arrived, they found her unconscious. They performed CPR on the woman and then transported her by boat to Harvest Boat Landing and took her by ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend where she later died.

Lane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, and the medical examiner is working to determine how the woman died.
