EUGENE, Ore. — A local women’s advocate group celebrates its 100th year in the city.
While, the American Association of University Women has been around since 1881, it got roots in Eugene a century ago. Members work for full equality for women. One of the ways they do that is by promoting education especially with young girls. Members said they’re excited to celebrate the landmark birthday.
“It’s pretty impressive that before Eugene even had a paved road, we had educated women trying to encourage other women to better their lives,” said Jo Brew, President.
The official birthday celebration will be held later this month. Mayor Kitty Piercy also made an appearance at the meeting Saturday morning as a guest speaker.
