EUGENE, Ore. — Twenty-five percent of those infected with aids have no idea. That population makes up 75 percent of the newly infected.
Saturday is World AIDS Day and a local organization in Eugene wants to get the word out.
The HIV Alliance will hold a remembrance ceremony at noon at the Bijou Art Cinema on 13th Avenue. The memorial will be followed with a special showing of the film “We Were Here”, a documentary film about the AIDS situation in San Francisco in the 1980s.
“This is an international day to remember those we lost to AIDS, and it’s also a day to recommit ourselves to education and prevention for the future,” said Diane Lang, HIV Alliance Executive Director.
The vigil and film are open to anyone.
