Wrong-Way Driver Cited for Crash

wrong-way crashEUGENE, Ore. — Eugene police say a wrong-way driver is to blame for a four-vehicle crash in the university area.

It happened just before 7 p.m. Sunday night.

Officers say 22-year-old Yuan Jiao drove westbound in the eastbound lanes near Franklin Boulevard and Walnut Street.

Jiao, along with another person, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“The people who were involved in this both those who weren’t at fault and the driver who was at fault were extremely fortunate that the injuries were as minor as they were. When you consider how rapidly vehicles are closing when they’re both heading at each other the potential for a fatal collision is tremendous,” Lt. Scott Fellman, Eugene Police.

Fellman says it doesn’t appear she was driving impaired.

Police cited Jiao for reckless driving and driving while uninsured.
