EUGENE, Ore. — Volunteers all over our area honored Martin Luther King, Jr. Monday by helping out in their communities and even a few furry friends.
The University of Oregon Youth Enrichment Program, along with Sunstone Service Dogs, worked with local students to build training equipment. The equipment then helps train the dogs to better serve those with disabilities.
“Agility is a great way for dogs and handlers to work on obedience, to work on speed, to work on timing communication, so many benefits to having such simple pieces of equipment,” said Melissa Mitchell, Sunstone Lead Trainer.
Once the obstacle courses were put together, a few of the service dogs demonstrated its use.
