Youth Farm Benefits Food for Lane County

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Summer is over, but that does not mean farm stands are closing.

In fact, this is the best time of year to check out produce. Summer and winter crops are overlapping.

Food for Lane County will continue its Saturday farm stand through October. Over the summer, it has produced 90,000 to 100,000 pounds of organic fruits and vegetables. Food for Lane County sells about 40 percent and expects to raise $65,000, which covers a significant portion of its budget.

The farm stand is open Saturday at 705 Flamingo Avenue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend on Thursdays from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.
