Youth Farm Fest Showcases Young Farmers

EUGENE, Ore. — Food for Lane County’s Youth Farm held a festival Saturday to showcase the work the kids there put into growing produce.

The public was invited to do different activities like carve fruits and vegetables into different shapes, try their hand at making homemade apple cider, and taste test the dozens of types of tomatoes grown at the farm.

All crews who run the farm are all under 19 years old and said their work here can be challenging, but it’s a great place to learn about urban farming.

“I think it’s really important for people to know that growing fresh produce is a possible thing, even if it is in the city,” said Luna Sansone, Food for Lane County Youth Farmer.

At the festival, the Food for Lane County farm stand also sold some of its organic, fresh produce.
