EUGENE, Ore. – Every year, 40,000 people lose their lives to breast cancer, and the Susan G. Komen Foundation has launched a campaign to do something about it.
The idea behind the More Than Pink campaign is to cut breast cancer deaths in half by the year 2026.
Andrew Asato, the CEO of Komen Oregon, said he believes this can be done by putting research dollars toward finding better treatments for more aggressive forms of breast cancer.
“Finding new ways to detect breast cancer early, looking beyond mammography at saliva and blood tests, these things are happening in research here in Oregon,“ Asato said.
This year’s Race for the Cure is March 4 at Valley River Center in Eugene.
