OREGON -- China’s recycling ban is having a big impact in Oregon with millions of pounds of recyclables being sent to landfills.

At the beginning of the year, China stopped allowing a lot of materials to be recycled due to contamination issues.

The Statesman Journal said Oregonians have sent 23 million pounds of recyclables to landfills in the months since then.

In April, the city of Eugene added more items to the list of what can’t be recycled, including plastic tubs and shredded paper.
