EUGENE, Ore. -- Edison Elementary students walked to school on Wednesday with some special guests.
Athletes from the University of Oregon helped the students celebrate National Walk and Roll to School Month.
Students said the early walk helped them get some exercise and get some extra energy out before they hit the books.
Melissa Berry, who went to Sheldon High School, is now a cross country athlete for Oregon. Berry said they want to make sure kids know driving isn’t the only option. And it can be fun to walk or bike with your friends.
“We love this community, and we love the kids in this community, and they can be anything they want,” Berry said. “And if they have an active lifestyle and they want to maintain that active lifestyle, then who knows where it can take them.”
Thousands of students from 20 schools in Eugene School District 4J were expected to walk, pedal and roll to school this month in different events.
