EUGENE, Ore. -- Tropical plants aren't just for the tropics. Some tropical plants can be grown indoors, including Bird's Nest Ferns.

There's a good reason for calling them Bird's Nest Ferns -- the plants resemble a bird's nest. However, these ferns are different than traditional ferns.

"These are ferns that you can see, the leaves are flat and solid versus most ferns that have the real airy and open leaves," said Caleb Johnson, owner of Johnson Brothers Garden Market.

Bird's Nest Ferns are used to growing in forest shade so they thrive in low-light conditions, but these plants need water.

"You just want a consistent water schedule. Just keep the soil moist.  Get them on a once-a-week schedule. Don't over water them, but don't let them dry out," Johnson said.

Johnson Brothers Garden Market is located at 91444 Coburg Road in Eugene.
